Outdoor Mom’s Journal – June 8, 2015
During our Outdoor Hour time this month we…..spent some time at the Oregon Coast during a negative tide where we could explore the many creatures that were exposed. Colorful seastars, anemones, and crabs were the highlights of the day! We try to time our visit to the ocean to coincide with a low tide so we can really see some interesting things. This page may prove helpful: Tides.com.
In the garden….we are planting herbs and veggies and flowers in pots. I am enjoying the process of watering a bit every day with our shower water and see the sprouts come up and flourish. I received quite a few different seeds from Renee’s Garden that say they are particularly for containers. I will let you know how it goes this summer!
A photo I would like to share….this is a magnificent snail we saw in the redwood forest. Isn’t he great!
The most inspiring thing we experienced….glorious sunset walks on Harris Beach. We lingered and watched. We strolled and talked. I savor those moments with my son…all grown up but he still appreciates the beauty found all around us.
Please join me! Share something that you have done lately….looking forward to reading your entries and comments!

Hi! A great idea to start an outdoor mom’s journal! I’d love to join in on my blog. Coincidentally I’ve just in this last week started my own paper nature journal too (my oldest has kept one for a year and I thought it was about time I joined her!). We love taking inspiration from your newsletter, and like in your beach photo above, I hope my kids grow up with a lifelong love of the beauty around us.
Here’s my mom’s journal blog post written today http://ponderingsfromthekitchen.blogspot.co.uk/2015/06/down-allotment-we-are-harvesting.html
Sounds like you are off to a good start with your family…I encourage you to keep it going. I love that you started your own journal because I think modeling this shows you are serious about the value of nature study. Thanks so much for linking up.
During our outdoor time this week we went on a trip to a park with lots of natural areas. We found many interesting things including some pink lady’s slippers (haven’t seen those in probably over a decade!) and some frogs and tadpoles among other things. The best find though was seeing a bald eagle! We just did our pages today in our journals including me doing my own!
I have been on the hunt for lady’s slippers but not been successful yet. I am so glad you had the opportunity to see them this year! It makes me happy to hear about your eagle and that you followed up with nature journal pages. Thanks for sharing on this month’s Outdoor Mom’s Journal entry!
The link above goes to a blog post about the birds we have been caring for and if you scroll to the bottom I answer one of your questions. I saw other inspiring things as well. We spotted two types of birds that my kids have never seen in the wild before (waxwing, and possibly a mocking bird)
Sorry… posted the wrong URL above. This one should work.
I commented over on your blog. Amazing experience!
