  3. Hi Barb,

I am just starting to study your blog and figure out how we can use it in out homeschool. I have a question for you, I live in Bolivia, our seasons are opposite to yours and I can not find any kind of field guide for Bolivia. I also live in the city of La Paz which is a very urban city of 1 million people and very little nature. Any thoughts on how to do this in our context?

  4. Hi Carin,

Welcome to the Outdoor Hour Challenges. My best suggestion to you is to just do your best at working through the beginning of the Outdoor Hour Challenges, starting with #1. You can read the Handbook of Nature Study online and glean tips for being a great nature study guide. These tips are applicable wherever you live. Then don’t worry too much about identifying what you see, just observe and appreciate on thing at a time and record in your nature journal what you see. It doesn’t need to be complicated.

As far as living in the city, there are many families that participate in the OHC that live in big cities. My advice is the same as above. Find one thing each week to be interested in. You probably have a park or small green area, even just a tree or a bird you see that can interest you and get you started.

Read through the tab at the top of my blog for OHC-Getting Started. I have listed a number of links to blog entries that my inspire you.

  5. Regarding the link to download, it is listed under djroys
